Oh, Rod Stewart, it’s gotta be a blessing and a curse having a rock and roll dad like you. I mean, it’s gotta be cool and all, and depending on which rock and roller we’re talking about, maybe he’s not even completely out of control and crazy, so you can do all kinds of cool stuff with him that most kids could only dream of. But on the flip side, since he’s an “artist”, sometimes you’ve got to deal with his “artistic side”. Like, for instance, when he wells up with emotion about the fact that some day you’re going to leave the nest and he wants to impart words of wisdom to you. Kinda like what I think you’re doing in this song, Rod Stewart. And don’t get me wrong, that’s incredibly sweet, and this is really a great song with such a positive energy and a positive message. But talk about putting some pressure on a kid, ya know? I mean, these are some pretty big expectations for any kid. Being courageous and brave, being dignified and true, those are tough things ta be no matter what your age, but to have those expectations featured in a top 40 hit that millions of people listen to, well, talk about setting a kid up for failure, you know. Once someone finds out you’re Rod Stewart’s kid, suddenly everyone expects you to be some saint, you know? Oh well, there are worse things to have happened to a kid, Rod Stewart, and we all appreciate the sentiment.
“Forever Young”
May the good Lord be with ya down every road ya roam
And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others as you’d have done ta you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
Forever young (forever young)
Forever young (forever young)
May good fortune be with ya, may your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven with a prince or a
Vagabond
And may ya never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young (forever young)
Forever young (forever young)
For
Ever young
Fo-woah-woah
Ever young
Yeah!
<awesome Rod Stewart jam>
And when you finally fly away, I’ll be hopin’ that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell
But whatever road ya choose
I’m right behind you
Win or lose
Forever young (forever young)
forever young (forever young)
For
Ever young
Yep. You love me.
I love this song!
This is a touching song, and it makes me glad to be a young gun when it comes to 80s music. I didn’t have to be bombarded with too many radio plays of this song!
