Radio VI, side A, track 9: “Green River” by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Oh, Creedence Clearwater Revival, there is nothing I can write about you that hasn’t already been said.  I don’t own much music (besides my tapes from the radio, that is), but I do own both volumes of your greatest hits.  When I first recorded this, I thought your name was Mississippi Clearwater Revival.  I actually even had some of your music on 45, but I didn’t make the connection, and perhaps I got you mixed up in my head with Tom Jones 45 I had of “The Tupelo Mississippi Flash”.  Who knows, Creedence Clearwater Revival?  What I do know is that I have long since seen the light, or put a candle in the window, if you will (you see what I did there, Creedence Clearwater Revival?)  If I’m ever somewhere where music is playing and someone yells out “Play some Creedence!”, I know that life is about to get so much better.

“Green River”

Well, take me back down where cool water flows, y’all
Let me remember things I love
Stoppin’ at the log where catfish bite
Walkin’ along the river road at night
Barefoot girls dancin’ in the moonlight

I can hear the bullfrog callin’ me, oh
Wonder if my rope’s still hangin’ to the tree.
Love to kick my feet ‘way down the shallow water
Shoo fly, dragonfly, get back t’mother.
Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River

<awesome CCR guitar solo>

Up at Cody’s camp I spent my days, oh
With flat-car riders and cross-tie walkers
Old Cody, Junior took me over
Said, “You’re gonna find the world is smold’rin’,
And if you get lost, come on home to Green River.”

<awesome CCR guitar solo>

(Come on home)
