Radio VI, side B, track 5: “Photograph” by Def Leppard

Oh, Def Leppard, even when you’re not rocking real hard you’re still rocking hard.  And even when you’re singing about something that’s kinda sad and pathetic, you still make it sound like it’s the coolest thing in the world.  Because when it comes down to it, Def Leppard, you’re really just singing about the fact that you’re totally in love with some hot girl that you’ve got a picture of, and it’s likely that it’s a picture of a girl who doesn’t know you exist (well, of course she knows Def Leppard, Def Leppard, but we’ll say that the song is sung by a character who is not part of one of the greatest rock bands ever).  And, hey, Def Leppard, I get it.  My old room was plastered with pictures of Alyssa Milano and Debbie Gibson and Nikki Taylor, amongst others.

And whenever we went into town and we happened to be at the Pamida or Shopko, I’d always stop to peruse the poster selection, of which there were always a good portion of which featured scantily clad ladies who my parents would never in their right minds give me money to buy, much less hang up on my wall.  But it didn’t stop a boy from dreaming about how these beautiful women had to be the most amazing women in the world, because back then, while I’d heard “You can’t judge a book by its cover”, I didn’t really believe it.  How could someone so beautiful be anything but perfect?  We live and learn, don’t we, Def Leppard?

“Photograph”

I’m outta luck, outta love
Got a photograph, picture of
Passion killer, you’re too much
You’re the only one I wanna touch

I see your face every time I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild and free, so far from me
You’re all I want, my fantasy

Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock and roll clown
Oh-oh, look what you’ve done

(Photograph) I don’t want your
(Photograph) I don’t need your
(Photograph) All I’ve got is a photograph (Photograph)
But it’s not enough

I’d be your lover, if you were there
Put your hurt on me if you dare
Such a woman, you got style
You make every man feel like a child, oh

You got some kinda hold on me
You’re all wrapped up in a mystery
So wild and free, so far from me
You’re all I want, my fantasy

Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock and roll clown
Oh-oh, look what you’ve done
I gotta have you

(Photograph) I don’t want your
(Photograph) I don’t need your
(Photograph) All I’ve got is a photograph (Photograph)
You’ve gone straight to my head

<awesome guitar solo>

Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock and roll clown
Oh-oh, look what you’ve done
I gotta have you

(Photograph) I don’t want your
(Photograph) I don’t need your
(Photograph) All I’ve got is a photograph (Photograph)
I wanna touch you
Ohhh!

(Photograph)
(Photograph) Yeah, photograph
(Photograph)
(Photograph) I need more, baby

(Photograph) I wanna know
(Photograph) I wanna know
(Photograph) I wanna really know
(Photograph) I wanna touch
