Radio VII, side B, track 2: “I Should Be So Lucky” by Kylie Minogue

Oh, Kylie Minogue, I made a mistake.  You see, I had recorded this song that I thought was called “I Go Crazy When I’m Without You”, but after I finished filling up this tape with music and went back to enjoy my most recent recordings, I realized that the song “I Go Crazy When I’m Without You” was actually “I Go Crazy”, which I’d already recorded on side A.  And at this point in my radio recording days, having the same song twice on the same tape was positively verboten (this would change later on as I fell in love with a few songs that I decided needed to be recorded as many times as possible).  So now I was in a quandary.  I could tape another song off the radio, but there was no telling if it was going to be just the right length to fit into the same space without risking recording over the next song.  It was a big problem, Kylie Minogue.

So I went back through my previous tapes, to not only find a song that was the approximate same length, but also a song that I would really like to listen to again.  And guess who won?  You did, Kylie Minogue, although I think it’s clear that I’m actually the big winner here for having your beautiful voice recorded in the first place.  Maybe on a different day I would have picked out something a little more sad, a little slower, a little less fun.  Or maybe I was in the kind of mood that made me want to pick something more sad, but I wanted to pick a song that would cheer me up.  Whatever the reason, Kylie Minogue, yours is the song I felt was special enough to transplant from one tape to another, and to this day I stand by that decision.

“I Should Be So Lucky”

In my imagination
There is no complication
I dream about you all the time
In my mind a celebration
The sweetest of sensation
Thinking you could be mine

In my imagination
There is no hesitation
We walk together hand in hand
I’m dreaming
You fell in love with me
Like I’m in love with you
But dreaming’s all I do
If only they’d come true

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love
I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

It’s a crazy situation
You always keep me waiting
Because it’s only make believe
And I would come a-runnin’
To give you all my loving
If one day you would notice me

My heart is close to breaking
And I can’t go on faking
The fantasy that you’ll be mine
I’m dreaming
That you’re in love with me
Like I’m in love with you
But dreaming’s all I do
If only they’d come true

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love
I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

I should be so lucky (so lucky, so lucky)
I should be so lucky I, I, (I, I)
I should be so lucky (so lucky, so lucky)
I should be so lucky
I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I

In my imagination
There is no hesitation
We walk together hand in hand
I’m dreaming
That you’re in love with me
Like I’m in love with you
But dreaming’s all I do
If only they’d come true

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

  1. […] Kylie Minogue, I know, I know.  I already had this song on two different tapes in my collection.  Was I obsessed or something?  Well, Kylie Minogue, I did make 70 of these […]
