Radio XIII, side A, track 7: “Hazy Shade Of Winter” by Bangles

Bangles Hazy Shade Of WinterOh, Bangles, there’s always a little bit of guilt when you enjoy the remake of a song so much more than the original.  But the thing is, a lot of times I heard the remake first and so that’s the version that I’m used to, and they’re usually pretty kick-ass, you know?  Don’t get me wrong, Simon and Garfunkel do a great job on the original, but I gotta tell ya, once that guitar riff kicks in at the beginning, you ladies kinda steal Simon and Garfunkel’s thunder.  And yes, clearly it’s a remake because you girls aren’t ones to sing such introspective songs involving brown leaves and snow on the ground, but leave it to you to make a song that involves such introspection an awesome rock song.  I love you, Bangles.

“Hazy Shade Of Winter”

Time, time, time

See what’s become of me

<awesome Bangles jam>

Time, time, time
See what’s become of me

While I looked around for my possibilities

I was so hard to please

Look around

Leaves are brown

And the sky

Is a hazy shade of winter

Hear the Salvation Army band

Down by the riverside, it’s bound to be a better ride than what you got planned

Carry a cup in your hand

Look around

Leaves are brown

And the sky

Is a hazy shade of winter

Hang onto your hopes, my friend

That’s an easy thing to say, but if your hopes should pass away, simply pretend

That you can build them again

Look around

Grass is high

Fields are ripe

It’s the springtime of my life

Seasons change with their scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won’t you stop and remember me

<awesome Bangles jam>

Look around

Leaves are brown

And the sky

Is a hazy shade of winter

Look around

Leaves are brown

There’s a patch of snow on the ground

Look around

Leaves are brown

There’s a patch of snow on the ground

Look around

Leaves are brown

There’s a patch of snow on the ground
