Radio XVI, side A, track 11: “Monster Hits Weekend promo — Count Floyd”

Count FloydOh, Count Floyd, back in the day when I heard this promo, I thought someone was just doing a silly Count Dracula impression.  But now that I’m older I know what impression they were trying to do.  That “Oooo, it’s scary!” line gave it away.  Had I been paying attention, I would have appreciated this in-joke for what it was, and I could have counted it as my first real in-joke to get, because I was already enjoying your antics on “The Completely Mental Misadventures Of Ed Grimley”, WHICH, had I known, was actually from “Monster Chiller Horror Theater” from the days of “SCTV” (where Ed Grimley was from, as well, as a matter of fact.  Or to put it better. . .I must say.  In-joke).  And here’s the thing, Count Floyd, if there’s one thing a geek gets excited about. . .well, one of many things a geek gets excited about, it’s a clever in-joke.  So you can imagine my excitement when I was watching “Freaks and Geeks” and on the Halloween episode Joe Flaherty dresses up like a certain neurotic vampire TV host.  Although it wasn’t QUITE as exciting as when I was watching “Castle” and Castle dressed up as a certain captain from a certain beloved canceled-too-soon sci-fi/Western.  Or when. . .you get the idea, Count Floyd.
