Oh, Count Floyd, back in the day when I heard this promo, I thought someone was just doing a silly Count Dracula impression. But now that I’m older I know what impression they were trying to do. That “Oooo, it’s scary!” line gave it away. Had I been paying attention, I would have appreciated this in-joke for what it was, and I could have counted it as my first real in-joke to get, because I was already enjoying your antics on “The Completely Mental Misadventures Of Ed Grimley”, WHICH, had I known, was actually from “Monster Chiller Horror Theater” from the days of “SCTV” (where Ed Grimley was from, as well, as a matter of fact. Or to put it better. . .I must say. In-joke). And here’s the thing, Count Floyd, if there’s one thing a geek gets excited about. . .well, one of many things a geek gets excited about, it’s a clever in-joke. So you can imagine my excitement when I was watching “Freaks and Geeks” and on the Halloween episode Joe Flaherty dresses up like a certain neurotic vampire TV host. Although it wasn’t QUITE as exciting as when I was watching “Castle” and Castle dressed up as a certain captain from a certain beloved canceled-too-soon sci-fi/Western. Or when. . .you get the idea, Count Floyd.
Flaherty’s the man — ” … you jackass!” Freaks and Geeks was his victory lap. And this, my friend, was my favorite scene of his from the show, from my favorite episode 😉

Even better, even THAT scene is an inside joke, considering the “Neal Peart couldn’t drum his way out of a paper bag” comments of Flaherty, who did the entro to “The Weapon” for the band’s 1984 Grace Under Pressure tour 😉 Found the video for that, even!

Those are awesome videos! Thanks for sharing them! Flaherty was so great in “Freaks and Geeks”. I need to watch that again.

Used to watch SCTV growing up near Buffalo. My friends and I loved Bob and Doug Mckenzie.
