Radio XVII, side A, track 11: “The Locomotion” by Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue - The LocomotionOh, Kylie Minogue, so here we are yet again.  Of all the multitude of songs I could have recorded over and over, I’m not completely sure why it is this song that held such a fascination for me.  I will say, for this particular recording, I was able to accomplish a rarity, in which I was able to record this song in its entirety, from beginning to end, no DJs talking at the beginning or the end.  In the radio recording game that I played in my head, this was the equivalent of a grand slam or a no-hitter, only much more rare.  So that’s probably why I recorded it this particular time, Kylie Minogue.  That’s got to be it.  Because otherwise people are going to get the impression that I spent the majority of my formative years in my room dancing the Locomotion over and over again.  That I had my room covered with Kylie Minogue posters.  And those would be fair assumptions to make, Kylie Minogue, but this is one of those rare times when it’s actually not true.  Or isn’t it?

“The Locomotion”

Everybody’s doing a brand new dance now
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
I know you’ll get to like it if you give it a chance now
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
My little baby sister can do it with ease
It’s easier than learning your ABC’s
So come on, come on
Do the Locomotion with me
You gotta swing your hips now
Come on, baby
Jump up
Hmmm jump back
Well, I think you got the knack
Oh-oh, now that you can do it let’s make a chain now
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
Chug-a chug-a motion like a railway train now
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
Do it nice and easy now, don’t lose control
A little bit’a rhythm and a lotta soul
So come on, come on
Do the Locomotion with me

The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on
The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on
The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on

Move around the floor in a Locomotion
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
Yeah
Do it holdin’ hands if you get the notion
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
There’s never been a dance that’s so easy to do
It even makes you happy when you’re feeling blue
So come on, come on, do the Locomotion with me
You gotta swing your hips now
Come on, baby
Jump up
Hmmm jump back
Well, I think you got the knack
Oh-oh, do the Loc, do the Loc, do the Loco-Locomotion
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
Do the Loc, do the Loc, do the Loco-Locomotion
(Come on, baby, do the Locomotion)
Do it nice and easy now, don’t lose control
A little bit’a rhythm and a lotta soul
So come on, come on
Do the Locomotion
Come on, come on
Do the Locomotion
Come on, come, do the Loco-Locomotion with me

The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on
The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on
The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on
The Locomotion (Wah-oo)
Come on, come on

  1. I still rock out to this song. In public. And I get people to join me.

Except, I never danced THIS fast. Your recording was filtered through espresso or something, the tempo is slightly higher than my hips have ever gyrated before and hips have fantastic memories. So….

“Are you freebasing? Inquiring minds want to know.”

I agree with starstorm however this song is definitely how I remember it. My goodness how time flies. Not many from this era are still going strong like Kylie.

  4. […] so you’d be prepared, you know?  It’s a very abrupt shift to go from singing along to “The Locomotion” or “Pour Some Sugar On Me” or just some song that makes you think about kissing girls […]

  5. […] In fact, I really only recorded two, but of those two I certainly recorded them a whole heckuva lot.  And it’s no mystery why, since both those songs are pretty great.  But I gotta say, Kylie […]
