Oh, erasure, I love you guys so much. I loved “Chains Of Love” but the way I feel about “A Little Respect” goes way beyond love. I adore it. If I could sing directly to this song, I’d sing exactly what this song is singing: “I’m so in love with you.” Seriously, erasure, this has one of the best choruses of any song I’ve ever heard. When you sing “I’m so in love with you”, it sounds so perfect, and then you follow it up with “I’ll be forever blue” and it’s like those two lines had just been waiting throughout the history of language to be paired up in just that way. And then when you get to the part about soul and you hit the falsetto on “toooooo meeeeee”. . .oh, erasure. Of COURSE you’ll get a little respect from me. More than a little. You get ALL my respect. And all my love. I know that creeps you out, erasure, but maybe if you didn’t sing such amazing songs you wouldn’t have this problem.
“A Little Respect”
I try to discover
A little somethin’ to make me sweeter
Oh, baby, refrain
From breakin’ my heeeart
I’m so in love with you
I’ll be forever blue
Thatcha give me no reason
Why ya makin’ me work so hard
Thatcha give me no
Thatcha give me no
Thatcha give me no
Thatcha give me no soooooul
I hear you caaalliiing
Oh, baby, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
Give a little respeeeeect
Toooooo meeeeeeeee
And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me
We can make love not war
And live at peace with our heeearts
I’m so in love with you
I’ll be forever blue
What religion or reason could drive a man to forsake his lover
Doncha tell me no
Doncha tell me no
Doncha tell me no
Doncha tell me no soooooooul
I hear you caaalliiing
Oh, baby, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
Give a little respeeeeect
Toooooo meeeeeeeee
<awesome erasure jam>
I’m so in love with you
I’ll be forever blue
Thatcha give me no reason
Ya know you’re makin’ me work so hard
Thatcha give me no
Thatcha give me no
Thatcha give me no
Thatcha give me no soooooul
I hear you caaalliiing
Oh, baby, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
Give a little respeeeeect
