Radio XXXI, side A, track 13: “Somebody Like You” by Robbie Nevil

Robbie Nevil - Somebody Like YouOh, Robbie Nevil, as I listened to this song for the first time since probably I first recorded it off the radio, I was filled with this overwhelming sense of. . .”Oh yeah, THIS song. . .”  I remember it, and I enjoy it, and I don’t know that I have anything else to say about it.  This is really awkward, Robbie Nevil.  It’s kinda like when you’re at a party, and you’re talking to someone you know, and then someone THEY know comes up and starts talking, and then the person you know has to go talk to someone else and you’re left standing there with the person that they know and you ask how they know them and they give you a half-hearted answer and then they ask you how you know them and you give a half-hearted answer and then you both just stand there, praying that either the person that you both know will come back or you’ll see someone else you can go talk to.  God I hate that, Robbie Nevil.  It’s why I never go out, specifically to avoid that exact scenario.  It’s physically painful to me.  As are most events that involve more than 4 people.  So I apologize that I’m equating your song with my crippling social anxiety, but hey, it was something to talk about, right?  And hey, I see someone I know, so. . .yeah.

“Somebody Like You”

<awesome Robbie Nevil jam>

Don’t mention

Where you’ve been

Or where you want to go

Oh-uh

Don’t tell me ’bout
All your sins

I don’t want ta know

I tried to give you everything

But all I got was nothing
In retuuuurn

Maybe I try too hard
And it don’t seem fair
I keep telling myself

Who needs somebody like you
I don’t need
(Nobody)
To waste my time

Who needs somebody like you
Someone like me
No matter
How hard I try

Yeah

<awesome Robbie Nevil jam>

You got your life and
That’s a fact

I got my dignity

Oh-uh

You may be happy with the
Way things are
But that ain’t workin’ for me

I don’t ask for perfection
But I got to know, didja ever
Really caaaare

Maybe you’re just a dream
That won’t come true

I keep tellin’ myself

Who needs somebody like you
I don’t need
(Nobody)
To waste my time

Who needs somebody like you
Someone like me
No matter
How hard I try

Who needs somebody like you
I don’t need
(Nobody)
To tell me lies
Oh oh
Who needs somebody like you
Someone like me
And now I’ll be wonderin’ why

I keep comin’ back ’til
I can’t take no more

<awesome Robbie Nevil jam>

Oh

Who needs somebody like you
I don’t need
(Nobody)
To tell me lies

Oh oh
Who needs somebody like you
Someone like me
And now I’ll be wonderin’ why

<awesome Robbie Nevil jam>
