Radio XXXII, side A, track 6: “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul - Straight UpOh, Paula Abdul, they say that March roars in like a lion, and what better way to kick it off than with a lady who was fierce before being fierce was a thing.  Now, you may be rolling your eyes, Paula Abdul, and thinking “He recorded this one AGAIN?”  Well, yes, I did Paula Abdul, but also kinda not.  Because this isn’t just “Straight Up”.  This is a “Straight Up” remix.  Or, to put it another way, this is a straight up remix.  So it’s not EXACTLY the same song.

Frankly, Paula Abdul, I find remixes to be a bit of an annoyance.  I’ve talked before about how my anal retentive nature can’t handle it, and while I’ve heard some remixes that can make a song a brand new thing, in general I don’t get the point.  Like this particular version, Paula Abdul.  So the mixer cut and paste “Do do ya love” to the beginning of the song, and there are a few more musical breaks than in the original, but otherwise it’s almost the exact same song, except maybe not as good.

Now, if the song included a few extra minutes of getting to hear you and your voice, well, then I could get behind it, Paula Abdul.  I would never EVER complain about more Paula Abdul.  But this song doesn’t really give me any extra Paula Abdul, except for maybe the new sexy ending of you saying “Straight up now tell me”, which I’ll admit is pretty hot (much hotter than the stuff I saw in the video from yesterday’s post for sure), but if you’re going to mess with a perfectly good song like this one, I think we need a little less mixing and a lot more Paula.  Straight up.

“Straight Up”

<awesome Paula Abdul jam>

Do do ya love me (Do do ya love me)
(Baby)
Come on, now
Do do ya love me (do do ya love me)

Lost

In a dream

I don’t know which
Way to go
(Let me say it if)
You
Are all that you seem
Baby I’m movin’ (movin’)
Way too slow

I’ve been a fool before
Wouldn’t like ta get my love caught in the slammin’ door
How ’bout some information pleeease

Straight up now tell me do ya really wanna love
Me forever (oh oh oh)
Or am I caught in a hit and run

Straight up now tell me is it gonna be you
And me together (oh oh oh)
Or are you just havin’ fun

<awesome Paula Abdul jam>

Time’s
Standin’ still
Waitin’ for some
(Waitin’ for some)
Small clue
(Let me tell you that)
I
Keep getting chills
When I think your love (when I think your love)
Is true

I’ve been a fool before
Wouldn’t like ta get my love caught in the slammin’ door
How ’bout some information pleeease

Straight up now tell me do ya really wanna love
Me forever (oh oh oh)
Or am I caught in a hit and run

Straight up now tell me is it gonna be you
And me together (oh oh oh)
Or are you just havin’ fun

You are so hard to read
You play hide and seek
With your true intentions

If you’re only playin’ games
I’ll just have to say
A-bye-bye-bye-bye-bye-bye-bye-bye-bye

Do do ya love me (Do do ya love me)
(Baby)
Come on, now
Do do ya love me (do do ya love me)

Tell me, baby

<awesome Paula Abdul jam>

I’ve been a fool before
Wouldn’t like ta get my love caught in the slammin’ door
Are ya more than hot for me
Or am I a page in your history

Look, I don’t mean ta make demands
But the word and the deed go hand in hand
How about some information pleeease (please please)
(A-please please)

Straight up now tell me

(Tell me)

Straight up now tell me

(Tell me)

Straight up now tell me

(Tell me)

Straight up now tell me

Straight up now tell me

Straight up now tell me do ya really wanna love
Me forever (oh oh oh)
Or am I caught in a hit and run

Straight up now tell me is it gonna be you
And me together (oh oh oh)
Or are you just havin’ fun

Straight up now tell me do ya really wanna love
Me forever (oh oh oh)
Or am I caught in a hit and run

Straight up now tell me is it gonna be you
And me together (oh oh oh)
Or are you just havin’ fun
