Radio XXXVIII, side B, track 9: “More Than A Feeling” by Boston

Boston - More Than A FeelingOh, Boston, I’m glad that that disembodied voice at the beginning of this track said that this was “timeless rock” because otherwise I’m fairly certain I would have just assumed that this was a hot new song by a hot new band called Boston.  Although I don’t know that I even like putting a label like “timeless rock” on something, because when I hear “timeless rock” I think “old people music”, which isn’t fair, especially now that I’m creeping up into the old person category myself, but fair or not, when you hear something like “timeless rock” or “ageless rock” or “classic rock”, it just seems to take some of the magic away, like you’re carting the song away into some inaccessible place, like they did with the Ark of the Covenant at the end of “Raiders Of The Lost Ark” (and NOT “Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of the Lost Ark” as some marketing heathens would have you believe).

Having said all that, I’m giving you a label of my own:  “Official Theme Song Of Mixed Tape Masterpiece”.  I know, Boston, we already have one of those.  But it’s my blog, so if I want more than one theme song for it, I’m giving it more than one theme song.  Besides, I can’t think of a better song that epitomizes what it’s like to just lay in bed on a gloomy day and listen to awesome music that makes you remember girls that you have loved, currently love, or will love.  Which is how I spent a good portion of my teenage years.  So thanks, Boston, for making a great song and giving me another theme song for my blog (which I’m sure is what you were going for originally in the first place) and for making such timeless rock.

“More Than A Feeling”

I looked out this mornin’
And the sun was gone

Turned on some music
Ta start my day
Then lost myself in a familiar song

I closed my eyes and I slipped awaaaaaaaaaaaay

It’s more than a feeliiiiiiin’ (more than a feeliiiiiin’)
When I hear that old song they used ta plaaay (more than a feeliiiin’)
I begin dreamiiiin’ (more than a feeliniin’)
‘Til I see Marianne walk awaaaaay

I see my Marianne walkin’ awaaaaaaaaaay

So many people
Have come and gone

Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall
As I wander on
As clear as the suuun in the summer skyyyyyy

It’s more than a feeliiiiiiin’ (more than a feeliiiiiin’)
When I hear that old song they used ta plaaay (more than a feeliiiin’)
And I begin dreamiiiin’ (more than a feeliniin’)
‘Til I see Marianne walk awaaaaay

I see my Marianne walkin’ awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

<awesome Boston jam>

When I’m tiiired and thinkin’ cold

I hide in my music, forget the day

And dream of a girl
I used ta know

I closed my eyes and she slipped awaaaaaaaaay

She slipped awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

<awesome Boston jam>

It’s more than a feeliiiiiiin’ (more than a feeliiiiiin’)
When I hear that old song they used ta plaaay (more than a feeliiiin’)
I begin dreamiiiin’ (more than a feeliiin’)
‘Til I see Marianne walk awaaaaaaaaaaaaay

<awesome Boston jam>
