Radio XXXIXL, side A, track 4: “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx

Richard Marx - Right Here WaitingOh, Richard Marx, it’s hard to say what my favorite Richard Marx song is because I’m pretty much in love with all of them.  But it might, MIGHT be this one.  It’s tough, Richard Marx, because “Hold On To The Nights” is pretty damn incredible, but then again, so is this song.  Both of them spoke to my insatiable need to pine for women out of my reach, or pine for a day when I would be with a woman who would still end up out of my reach.

What would have been awesome is if I could have lived my life with the sensitive dignity of a Richard Marx song.  I got the sensitive part down, but not the dignity.  As my wife can attest, I am not pleasant when things don’t go my way.  And I’m not talking house burned down, lost my job, horrible car accident not go my way.  I mean that the DVR didn’t record a show, my wife won’t let me read a comic book before bed, I’m too fat to tie my shoes comfortably not going my way.  In my head, I’d like to believe that you would sing the soundtrack to my life, Richard Marx, but I think we all know that it’s going to be composed by “Weird Al”.

Oceans apaaart

Day after daay

And I slowlyy gooo insane

I hear your voice

On the liiine

But it doesn’t stooop the pain

If I see you neeext to never

How can we saaay forever

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you

Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

I took for granted

All the times

That I thought would laaast somehow

I hear the laughter
I taste the teears

But I can’t get near you now

Oh, cancha seee it, baby

You’ve got me goooin’ crazy

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you

Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

I wonder hooow we caaan surviiive
This romance

But in the end if I’m with you
I’ll taaake the chaaaaaaance

<awesome Richard Marx slow jam>

Oh, cancha seee it, baby

You’ve got me goooin’ crazy

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you

Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breeeaks, I will be
Right here waiting for yooou

  1. […] myself in a blessedly peaceful oasis of nostalgia as I marveled at the foresight I had in 1989 to record this song again so it would be right here waiting for me at just this moment.  Thank you, Richard […]
