Radio XLII, side B, track 11: “Come Go With Me” by Expose

Expose - Come Go With MeOh, Expose, thank you so much, but no.  Back when this first came on the radio, I guarantee that I was ready to come go with you wherever you wanted to go.  But I didn’t have a job and I didn’t have a car AND most importantly I didn’t have a girlfriend, so if a group of lovely lady singers showed up at my house imploring me to go with them, well, duh.  But that was a long time ago, Expose.  That was before I understood the nature of my introversion and how introverts and extroverts use and store and replenish energy.  It was before I had a decent understanding of why I enjoyed performing in school plays and speech competitions and yet felt completely exhausted and miserable after them and why I absolutely hated parties, especially those involving people I didn’t know.  Now I understand that interacting with others is a huge energy drain on me, as opposed to extroverts who eat that up for sustenance.  Now I know that if I give a presentation at work or hell, if I just talk to more than ten people in a day, even though I’ll do just fine in the during, when I get home I am done.  The idea of coming home from work and then going out AGAIN. . .I think I just threw up in my mouth a little, Expose.

My dad was the same way, Expose, and it used to be a joke about how much of a homebody he was.  But now that I’m about the age he was when I was ridiculing his lack of interest in anything outside of the house, I totally get it.  Ironically, my dad now does all kinds of shit and here I am, a lump on the couch, watching “The Young and the Restless” and dreading tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and I wonder if I’ll ever get to a place where the idea of going out with you after a long day of work sounds anywhere near appealing, Expose.  I don’t foresee that happening any time soon.  So thank you, Expose.  But no.
