Radio XLIV, side A, track 4: “Crossfire” by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Stevie Ray Vaughn - CrossfireOh, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, this song probably shows just how out of the loop I am when it comes to having a social life.  As I’ve probably mentioned, I currently live in Austin, TX, where you’re basically revered as a god.  But I really don’t know that much about your music besides the few songs I recorded off the radio when I was a kid, plus as we’ll hear in tracks to come, I happened to be recording music the fateful day of your helicopter crash.  So considering I live in the purported live music capital of the world, I’m pretty woefully ignorant of the music scene outside of what I recorded off the radio in the late ’80s and early ’90s.  It’s weird, right?

I will say, my wife and I have been watching a great series on HBO recently called “Sonic Highways”, following the Foo Fighters as they record a new song in a different city every week, which has been fascinating.  In the Austin episode, you were featured prominently, Stevie Ray Vaughan, reminding me again how little I know of your importance.  But one thing that I did learn was that you were an amazing musician.  I mean, I already knew it based on just this track alone, but in the episode of “Sonic Highways” you were in, they showed a clip of you on “Austin City Limits” where you played your guitar BEHIND YOUR HEAD.  And it still sounded sublime.  I try not to swear too much on this blog, but that’s pretty fucking incredible, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

So anyway, thanks for a great tune to bring a relaxing holiday weekend to a close, and for reminding me that even though I’m on the very periphery of music appreciation, even I can recognize a legend when I hear one.

Day by day

Night after night

Blinded by
The neon lights

Hurry here

Hustlin’ there

No one’s got
The time ta spare

Money’s tight

Nothin’ free

Won’t somebody come an’ rescue me
I am strandeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

Strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

Tooth for tooth

Eye fer an eye

Sell ya soul just ta buy, buy, buy

Beggin’ a dollar
Stealin’ a dime

Come on cancha
See that I
I am strandeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

I am strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

I need some

Kinda kindneeess
Some kinda sympathy, oh no

We’re strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

<awesome Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble jam>

Save the strong

Lose the weak

Never turnin’
The ooother cheek

Trust nobody

Don’t be no fool

Whatever happened to the golden rule
We got strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

We got strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

We got strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

Strandeeeed

Caught in the crossfi’

He’p me
