Radio 65, side A, track 12: “helicopter crash update”

News_readerLuckily, this should be the last update about the helicopter crash that killed Stevie Ray Vaughan.  If nothing else, it does highlight how tone-deaf the news media is.  Granted, Robin Jones was not a newscaster, but even so, listening to her talk about five dead people, followed immediately by “We’ve got more great tunes comin’ up!” is pretty rough.  And it’s not like this is an isolated instance of awkward segues.  Since my wife needs to watch the “Today” show in the morning to get ready for the day, I’m stuck watching the same thing.  And those “journalists” can go from grimly reporting on a suicide bombing to gushing about a delicious new recipe for crumb cake on a dime.  It’s really gross and I hate them all for it.  (Sorry, that’s harsh, but I’m also reading about the O.J. Simpson trial right now, so my already healthy disdain for “journalism” is at a fever pitch right now.)

Anyway. . .

As far as I know, this should be the last track where the “real world” seeped into my little radio-taping bubble, and we can just focus on more great tunes comin’ up!

The folks at the “Today” show would be proud.
