Radio 86, side B, track 6: “Elvira” by The Oak Ridge Boys

Elvira - The Oak Ridge BoysOh, The Oak Ridge Boys, AAAAHHHHHHH!  Thank you, 9@9!!!!  I can’t tell you for absolute certain, The Oak Ridge Boys, but I’m pretty sure that this was the first song I fell in love with as a kid.  Some of it might have been wondering just who this mysterious Elvira was, but really, it was the “oom poppa oom poppa oom poppa mow mow” in one of the best bass voices ever.  I have forever since tried to be able to get my voice that low, but to no avail.  I would LOVE if I had that voice, but the older I get, the more I sound like Kermit the Frog.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that, The Oak Ridge Boys, but two things I’ve always wanted was a manly voice and manly hands.  I have neither.  Maybe if I’d practiced more and worked harder, I’d have fists the size of turkeys and a voice so ultrasonic that only elephants could hear it, but that’s not how things panned out.

Anyway, The Oak Ridge Boys, my parents owned this record, and so I got to listen to this all the time.  I might have to track down the rest of that album and see if anything else on there hits my nostalgia meter, but surely nothing will compare to this one.  So excited to have you join us on the blog, The Oak Ridge Boys!  I can’t think of any other of your songs that could show up here off the top of my head, but if this is the only one that does, well, heigh ho Silver, awaaay!!!!!
