Oh, Suzanne Vega and DNA, obviously all of us knew this song as kids. All of us, and I mean ALL of us, could not stop singing “Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo” whether we wanted to or not. I always thought it was an interesting song, but it wasn’t until a few years later that this song would forever be burned into my DNA (see what I did there?).
I may not have talked about this yet on this blog, and if I haven’t, I can’t believe it, but it KINDA makes sense since it didn’t happen until later. . .
Anyway, I LOVE Marisa Tomei. Like, you have no idea, Suzanne Vega and DNA. Like, I LOVE her. Whenever I express this feeling, everyone assumes it started with “My Cousin Vinny”. Which is a fair guess. But no, Suzanne Vega and DNA, it was “Untamed Heart” where I fell for Marisa, and I fell hard. I mean, how could I not? For one thing, she’s beautiful. But more importantly, that movie is set in Minnesota. Marisa Tomei was in Minnesota, Suzanne Vega and DNA! We were in the same state at the same time!
I didn’t realize it until years later, but I think one of the reasons I fell so hard for her is because she totally nailed the Minnesota accent. So much so that I didn’t even notice it when I first saw it in the theater. It was only later, after I’d been in Texas for awhile and was able to recognize Minnesota accents for what they were that I realized how effortlessly she pulled it off.
I mentioned a couple of days ago that I would be really happy if Wilson Phillips took some time out to say hi to me. Well, if Marisa Tomei did that? O. M. G. Seriously, Suzanne Vega and DNA, I don’t know that I could even handle it. I mean, I just went to go see “Captain America: Civil War”, in which Spider-Man’s Aunt May is now played by Marisa Tomei. I LOVE Spider-Man, Suzanne Vega and DNA. Seriously, people call me Spider-Man at work because I have so much Spider-Man stuff. People randomly GIVE me Spider-Man stuff, which is incredible. And NOW, NOW Marisa Tomei and Spider-Man are together in the same movie. Holy shit! Not only that, but she’s chatting with Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey, Jr., who was in “Only You” with her!!! AAAAGGHHHH!!!!!
. . .
So where is all this stuff about Marisa Tomei coming from? What the hell does that have to do with “Tom’s Diner”?
Well, Suzanne Vega and DNA, as I’m sure you’re well aware, this song was playing over the opening scene when Marisa comes home late from her job and needs to get ready for a date and is running around in her underwear. It’s probably the best scene every committed to film. It’s then followed by her getting dumped, which is the most unrealistic scene ever filmed because who in their right mind would ever break up with Marisa Tomei?!?!?!
Oh my god I love her so much.
Anyway, because the internet is magic, you can see what I’m talking about below. I won’t blame you if you fall in love.
