Oh, Gloria Estefan, now this is the way to start off a brand new tape! A “pure song” AND a kick-ass song all in one! According to the cover of this particular tape, I started recording this one in late April, so it was probably still a little chilly outside, and what better way to combat the soul-sucking Minnesota chill than with some Latin heat, eh, Gloria Estefan? I can oye tu canto all damn dia, mi amor, so I think that’s what I’m going to do. Nice to know those high school Spanish classes paid off just a teensy bit.
“Oye Mi Canto (Hear My Voice)”
<awesome Gloria Estefan jam>
Take meeeee
Only for what I am
You’ve got a right to speak your mind
Gotta take a stand
No one
Has the right to say
This is right or that is wrong, it isn’t just one way
Find common ground
Go in between
Things aren’t always
What
They
Seem
Some daaaaay
It’ll be all right
Changeeees
Happen overnight
People
Let’s give each other room
If we’re gonna work it out
Better make it soon
Love is
Love is such a common word
When it’s pride we mistake for love
Isn’t that absurd
Why always take
The upper hand
It’s better to
Un
Der
Staaaaaand
Some daaaaay
It’ll be all right
Changeeees
Happen overnight
Some daaaaay
It’ll be all right
Changeeees
Happen overnight
Oye mi canto
(Oye mi canto)
(Oye mi canto)
I believe in love but with no conditions (oye mi canto)
And giving in sometimes doesn’t make it submission (oye mi canto)
Hate is so common it’s almost tradition (oye mi canto)
Come on let’s leave it behind and make that transition (oye mi canto)
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto (oye mi canto)
(Oye mi canto) oye oye mi canto
(Oye mi canto)
Some daaaaay
It’ll be all right
Changeeees
Happen overnight
