Oh, Huey Lewis and The News, when I was a kid, I had no idea that this was a song. Because the only version I knew was “I Want A New Duck” by “Weird Al”. “Dare To Be Stupid” was the first “Weird Al” tape I owned, and I listened to it over and over and over and over. He’s really great, Huey Lewis and The News. Not to take anything away from this song, of course, but seriously, he not only made a whole song about ducks, but a song about ducks set to this song. I would think it’s hard enough to come up with a song about ducks in the first place without the added challenge of fitting a different song’s rhyme scheme.
Sorry, didn’t mean to talk about how much I love a different artist when this is supposed to be about you. And obviously I think y’all are great, and I’m super excited to have you back on the blog. This was the first of your songs I recorded off of BOB, and it was one that I hadn’t recorded before. It’s just that I don’t have any real memories of this one, Huey Lewis and The News, but I can remember the many times I listened to the duck version. Also, I’ve never really been into drugs. I’m not saying I’m anti-drug or anything, it was just never my dime bag.
I think it’s more of a control issue than anything, Huey Lewis and The News. With alcohol, I always felt like I had some semblance of control, if that makes any sense. I could get a slight buzz or, as was usually the case, I could go whole hog and drink until I passed out. There’s just something about a pill or smoke or what have you, once it’s in your system, you’re riding whatever train comes down the track. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, I know, Huey Lewis and The News, but I think it’s for the best that the hardest drugs I’ve ever taken are my cholesterol meds. And even those I’m a little skeptical of.
