Oh, The Edgar Winter Group, it’s been a loooong time since we’ve had one of your songs on here. Not since the “Monster Hits Weekend”. I don’t know if I ever heard this song before “Dazed and Confused”, but does it really matter, The Edgar Winter Group? Because whenever I think of this song, I’m going to be thinking about that movie.
I really don’t know how many times I’ve seen “Dazed and Confused”, The Edgar Winter Group. It’s a lot. I owned a VHS copy that I watched over and over during my Richard Linklater obsession days back in the late ’90s, and it seems to always be on TV on one station or another. It’s one of those movies that, once it’s on the TV screen while you’re flipping through, you just have to stop and watch it.
As a kid living on a farm with wide eyes about anything involving the movies but with a very small understanding of the world in general, it never really occurred to me that movies were made in real places. Honestly, I still forget sometimes. So it’s very surreal to me when I see places I know and have actually been to in movies and TV. For example, all the shots of the gang hanging out at Top Notch. I was literally just there on Friday night, The Edgar Winter Group. My wife and I had a pretty rough night and were in no mood to cook, so we stopped at Top Notch to pick up supper. In case you’re wondering, we both got the #3, which is the Top Pick, which is in-frigging-credible. Luckily, they will substitute out the beef patty with a veggie patty so I can still indulge.
Anyway, we ordered from the car in the car hop section, which we normally never do (I typically call in the order and go pick it up), and now a couple of days later, while listening to this song, I look up the clip this song is featured in and there are folks in a movie doing the exact same thing I was doing. If you would have told a younger version of me that I’d be a regular at a restaurant featured in “Dazed and Confused”, my little mind would have been blown. And I would be wondering what the hell I was doing in Texas.
Anway, The Edgar Winter Group, thanks for making such a great song and for making me want a burger and tots again.
