Radio XXV, side A, track 14: “If We Never Meet Again” by Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers

Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers - If We Never Meet AgainOh, Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers, here’s what I find fascinating about this particular gem of a song:  if you heard this song, you’d never guess that you guys also sang this song.  And vice versa.  If you listened to this song, and this was the only song you could use as a frame of reference, you’d think that you guys were this moody pre-emo, pre-grunge band that sang introspective sensitive rock-ish songs.  But if you listened to “I’m Not Your Man” first, as I had, you’d think you guys were these young toughs, young rumblers even, who would sneer at the kind of guys who would perform a song like “If We Never Meet Again”.  So which is it, Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers?  Are you sensitive, flower-sniffing hippies or are you young punks who can’t find a job and treat their lady-friends like dirt?  Because there’s no room in this world for people who can ‘t be instantly categorized.

We’re waiting, Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers. . .

“If We Never Meet Again”

Well there’s one thing

I’d like to rearrange

But after everything’s already happened
And there’s nothin’ left to change

They can take their advice

And use it all on themselves

‘Cause when all the talkin’ stops
I wanna have somethin’ else

I wanna have a little faith

I wanna know what a guy and a girl

Can do when they’re dizzy ’cause they’re just not
Spinnin’ with this world

Aw, if we never meet again

If goodbyes remain unspoken

I won’t glorify our past

But our bond remains unbroken

If we never meet again

Well there’s one thing

That I’ll never forget

It’s the beauty of a friendship
That’s not over yet

I know how just one smile

Can be planted like a seed

And I wanna do that fer somebody else
The way it was done for me

I wanna have a little faith

There’s somethin’ better at the end of this path

‘Cause these memories get old and fade like photographs

Aw, if we never meet again

If goodbyes remain unspoken

I won’t glorify our past

But our bond remains unbroken

If we never meet again

<awesome Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers jam>

Well there’s one thing

I’d like to even up

You can be what they’ve made you into
Or you can make your own luck

You can blindly fight your enemies

You can blindly follow your friends
I seen it happen so many times

I know it’s gonna happen again

But I gotta have faith

I gotta know that a guy and a girl

Can still make it even when they’re just not
Spinnin’ with this world

Aw, if we never meet again

If goodbyes remain unspoken

I won’t glorify our past

But our bond remains unbroken

If we
Never meet again

If goodbyes remain unspoken

I won’t glorify our past

But our bond remains unbroken
