Oh, Icehouse, totally forgot about this song, which is kind of shameful because it’s a pretty damn great song. Plus, I have a soft spot for you guys since you had one of the first songs I ever recorded on my tapes. Besides the great song on this track, the other great thing about it is that we actually have a frame of reference for when this got recorded, since I initially didn’t keep track of when I recorded these. But the DJ gave us some historical events and birthdays that happened when this track played, including Olivia Newton-John’s birthday, and with some amazing detective skills (i.e. taking 2 seconds to search Google), I was able to determine that this track and several of the others following this were recorded on September 26th, 1989, which also happens to be my dad’s birthday, which happens to be 4 days after my own birthday, which means I’d just turned 14 and my dad just turned 44, and I’m way closer to 44 now than I was then, but I’m still listening to the same music I did when I was 14. . .
I don’t know what any of this means, but let’s not worry about any of that, Icehouse, and just enjoy a great song this Christmas Eve that could maybe double, kinda, as a Christmas carol, what with all the talk about a warm, toasty fire. Thanks for the early Christmas present of your music, Icehouse!
“Touch The Fire”
<awesome Icehouse jam>
Moves like a mystic
Like a priestess, tall and pale
She lays down the mystery
All her secrets are unveiled
Wherever I look, I see her there
Wherever I go, you know she’s there
And she takes possession, she has control
Next to you I can touch the fire
And when the fever takes ahold
Next to you I can touch the fire
Her words fall in echoes
Ringing bells like gypsy rhymes
She has the power
No believer can explain
Wherever I look, I see her there
Wherever I go, you know she’s there
And she takes possession, she has control
Next to you I can touch the fire
And when the fever takes ahold
Next to you I can touch the fire
I feel the heat pumpin’ in my veins
Next to you I can touch the fire
I see myself goin’ up in flames
Next to you I can touch the fire
Wherever I look I see her there
Wherever I go you know she’s there
<awesome Icehouse jam>
She takes possession, she has control
Next to you I can touch the fire
And when the fever takes ahold
Next to you I can touch the fire
I feel the heat pumpin’ in my veins
Next to you I can touch the fire
I see myself goin’ up in flames
Next to you I can touch the fire
She takes possession
Touch the fire
Touch the fire
I feel the heat pumpin’ in my veins
Next to you I can touch the fire
I see myself goin’ up in flames
Next to yoooooooooooou
Touch the fire
