Radio 61, side A, track 9: “Talk To Ya Later” by The Tubes

The Tubes - Talk To Ya LaterOh, The Tubes, the balls on you guys, am I right?  Ever since I first heard this song, I was amazed and envious of your audacity.  And that was before I paid attention to all the lyrics.  Back in the day, all I really knew was the chorus, which was a pretty awesome chorus.  Blowing some girl off like that was pretty incredible.  I couldn’t even imagine having the self-esteem and confidence in myself where I could tell a girlfriend to shove off.  Later on I’d try it, but I would immediately panic because I assumed I would never find anyone else ever again.  These days, I do a variation of this song when my wife brings up any subject involving my emotional health, but it’s a bit more diluted than your version.  In my version, I just say “We’ll talk about it later”.  Here’s a secret:  when I say “We’ll talk about it later”, I’m hoping that she’ll forget about it.

I get it, The Tubes, if it’s such a secret, why am I writing it on a blog that she might read?  Well, here’s the thing, The Tubes, I’m not that bright, but my wife is, so she knows all of this anyways.  I will say that I doubt very much that you’re going to cry later on, as you claim in this song.  I do think you’re going to go out and get drunk as hell as soon as she’s gone and you’re likely going to meet another gal on the Strip and be right back here in another six months.  And I won’t feel sorry for you one bit, The Tubes.  Not because I’m judging you or anything, but if your horrible relationships produce this kind of music, just keep doing what you’re doing.

I met her on the Strip

It was another lost weekend

The band was too slick

And the people were twisted

So I asked her for a date

She reluctantly agreed

Then we went to my place

And she never did leave

She won’t even miss me when she’s goooooone

That’s okay with me I’ll cry later oooooon

It’s been six months

She hasn’t shut up once

I’ve tried to explain

She’s drivin’ me insane

She won’t even miss me when she’s goooooone

That’s okay with me I’ll cry later oooooon

Talk
To ya lata

Don’t wanna hear it again tonight

I’ll talk
To ya lata

Just save it for another guy

Hey, talk
To ya lata

Don’t wanna hear it again tonight

I’ll just
See you aroooouuuund

Get out

I’m tellin’ you now

Do you catch my drift

What could be plainer than this

Nothin’ more to be said

Write me a letter instead

I don’t mean to be cruel

But I’m finished with you

She won’t even miss me when she’s goooooone

That’s okay with me I’ll cry later oooooon

I’ll talk
To ya lata

Don’t wanna hear it again tonight

I’ll talk
To ya lata

Just save it for another guy

I’ll talk
To ya lata

Don’t wanna hear it again tonight

I’ll just
See you aroooouuuund
