Radio 78, side B, track 4: “Rock This Town” by Stray Cats

Stray Cats - Rock This TownOh, Stray Cats, godDAMN!  This song is so ridiculously amazing.  As I was listening to it again, I was thinking that it was too bad that I wasn’t a little older when this came out, because maybe I would have been all rockabilly.  But there’s just as good a chance that I could have gone The Cure or Morrisey route.  And I WAS old enough when grunge came out, but I only really embraced the flannel because it was cold most of the time in Minnesota.

At the end of the day I’ve always been just at the outside of things, Stray Cats, whether it’s music or geek stuff or even religion.  I enjoy something, but then I find something else I enjoy just as much and eventually drift to that for awhile and on and on and on.  I observe but never fully commit.  Other than my wife, my pets, this blog and maybe latch hooking, I haven’t really stuck around around for anything long-term before my interest is piqued by something else.  I still haven’t watched all of “Deep Space Nine” and “Voyager”.  I still have a big ol’ stack of “Amazing Spider-Man” comics I have to read.  Not to mention all the books I’ve bought that are gathering dust waiting for me to pay attention to them again.

What’s my point in all this, Stray Cats?  I’m not sure.  I think what I’m trying to say is that there could have been the possibility that I could have lived a life of highly moussed hair and popped collars, but it would only have lasted a month at most before I was dressing like Prince or Robert Smith.  But it would have made for some really embarrassing photos.  And the music would have been great.
