Oh, Suave, normally I don’t do much in the way of reading about the artists before I post about a song, but I couldn’t find anything about you or this song right away, and when I tracked down the Wikipedia article about you I caught a glimpse of “arson” and “Biggie Smalls” and since it was a pretty short article, I decided to give it a quick read, and of course I wish I hadn’t, which is why I normally don’t do too much research on my beloved radio stars because I don’t want to know anything bad about them. I want to believe they’re just there in my radio making beautiful music with nothing untoward going on behind the scenes, where life is just one big happy royalty check. And to read about your life and juxtaposing it with this really smooth, well-done remake of an already great song just makes me sad. I wanted to give you a little ribbing about how you changed the lyrics so that your name was in them (“I’ve got all the riches, baby, one suave man can claim”), but now it just seems like kicking a man when he’s already down, so never mind. It’s a good lesson for me to let other people click on those links, better for thee and not for me and all that. I’m just going to listen to this song again and pretend everything’s just fine.
