Oh, Karyn White and Jeff Lorber, I’m just gonna say, thank goodness for Karyn White, right? No offense, Jeff Lorber, but when I hear “modern jazz”, I think of Kenny G and gentle rain and other things that put me to sleep. And listening to this song, imagining that Karyn isn’t providing her vocals, I can’t imagine that I’d have stuck around to listen to the whole thing. But thankfully, Karyn White and Jeff Lorber, Karyn is most definitely singing some vocals along with some fairly generic synth-piano, and it’s that singing that we paid the price of admission for. Had I paid admission. Which I hadn’t. Though I did shell out the money for the cassette that was recording this particular tune. Well, maybe my mom did. You get the idea, Karyn White and Jeff Lorber.
And the DJ said that you were pretty new to the whole scene, Karyn White. Comparatively speaking, but so far on the Now and Then Weekend most of the other artists had been around for at least a decade. Here you were, only 3 years after your first big break and you were being featured as a hot new pop act. Pretty impressive. And no surprise, because you have a beautiful voice and I’ll just say what we’re all thinking, you’re sexy as hell. When you’re singing “More. . .than temporary passion” at the end in that breathy sexy voice. . .well, let’s just say that I suddenly understood the facts of love, and the fact was, I loved you, Karyn White.
