Radio VI, side B, track 9: “Surfer Girl” by The Beach Boys

Oh, The Beach Boys, now this is the stuff.  Long before I discovered the joys of modern pop and rock music, I was raised on my parents’ old 45’s and EPs.  And I played the hell out of “Endless Summer” (along with Eddie Rabbit and The Oak Ridge Boys).  This is what I hoped teenage life would be, full of yearning and beautiful girls and love so intense that you can sing in crazy high falsetto and still be all man.  I knew I wouldn’t have any access to surfer girls, per se, but I did grow up in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, so there was still the possibility of girls in bikinis in and near water of some sort.  We wouldn’t necessarily be able to ride the surf together, but maybe we could catch some Northerns together or something.  Hell, even if it were just a few bullheads, that’s fine, I’d make it romantic no matter what.

I also liked that it included the word “woody”.

“Surfer Girl”

Oooooooooooooooooo

Little surfer, little one
Made my heart come all undone
Do you love me, do you, surfer girl?
Surfer girl, my little surfer girl

I have watched you on the shore
Standing by the ocean’s roar
Do you love me, do you, surfer girl?
Surfer girl, surfer girl

Ooooooooooooo

We could ride the surf together
While our love would grow
In my Woody I will take you everywhere I go

So I say from me to you
I will make your dreams come true
Do you love me, do you, surfer. . .
Girl, surfer girl, my little surfer girl

Oooooooooowaaaaaaa
Girl, surfer girl, my little surfer girl
Oooooooooowaaaaaaa
Girl, surfer girl, my little surfer girl
