Oh, John Farnham, I’ve always wanted to be some Indiana Jones type or some detective or something where I get to have that moment where I’m tirelessly sifting through teetering piles of musty documents and I suddenly come across the one final piece of whatever puzzle I’m trying to solve and I get to whisper “Oh. . .my. . .god. . .” and slowly look up into the camera with a look of haunted victory. I KINDA got a little bit of that as I was transcribing the lyrics for this one, John Farnham. It’s when we got to the part where you sing “I wanna feel my blood run through you”.
Yeah. I know.
I’m humming along to this pleasant, innocuous song, innocently typing away, and suddenly I stumble across a line that could be right out of a serial killer’s journal. This light airy song suddenly gives way to oozing, brooding storm clouds.
Let’s look at it again: “I wanna give my life to you. I wanna feel my blood run through you. And oh, I wanna touch you. Over and over and over again.” Feel my blood run through you? What does that even mean?!?! What would that even entail?!?!?
Ya know, John Farnham, I was all set to focus on that lyric “We stick together like the honey and the bee” and how it sounded like a really cool ’70s cop team: Honey and the Bee. But now, now I’m going to have to live with the fact that I may have accidentally stumbled across a forbidden text that will have me forever cursed for knowing it. All set to great music.
