Radio XLIV, side B, track 9: “Rock Steady” by The Whispers

Oh, The Whispers, I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but I’m pretty sure the only reason I recorded this song was because I forgot that I’d already recorded it.  It’s not that I don’t like this song, The Whispers, it’s just that it didn’t really capture me like the other songs I’d recorded multiple times.  But let’s not dwell on my reasons for recording this song.  Let’s instead focus on the fact that this song was still getting air play over a year after it was a brand new song.  I originally recorded it some time in the summer of ’88, and here we were in the fall of ’89 and this song was still showing up on the radio and onto my tapes.  That’s pretty great, The Whispers.

And while we’re reminiscing, it’s been almost exactly two years since I first posted about this song, when we were way back on Radio XII.  That seems so long ago, The Whispers.  I’ll be honest with you, I’m really surprised that here we still are, celebrating the music of my youth.  I’m just saying that I’m not known for sticking to projects.  I’ll come up with an idea that excites me, but eventually it will fizzle out.  Most of those ideas revolve around categorizing things or putting things in some kind of order.  Like reading all of the “Star Wars” novelizations in order or organizing my Wildlife Treasury cards.  Eventually, I’ll get distracted by something else, like reading all of “The Amazing Spider-Man” in order or organizing my T-shirts by genre.  So the fact that I’ve stuck with this for over 3 years is something of a miracle.  Besides my wife and my cats, this blog is one of my longest relationships.  So I’m sorry I forgot about you, The Whispers, but thanks for reminding me how fun it’s been to revisit you and all my other radio friends.
