Radio 81, side A, track 7: “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia

Oh, Natalie Imbruglia, I heard this all the time when it first came out.  For some reason, while I was listening to it this time, I had a flash of sitting in Bo Diddley’s Deli and hearing this on the radio while I was eating soup and a sandwich on a lonely afternoon.  I haven’t thought about Bo Diddley’s in a long time, Natalie Imbruglia, and I’m not really even sure if I’m remembering it correctly.  But surely they played “Torn” at some point during my many trips there.  The one thing I completely had forgotten and frankly had never really paid much attention to was how beautiful your voice is.  For whatever reason, I just didn’t pay that much attention to it.  Maybe it’s because usually when I heard it I was in the car and the car radio isn’t always the best at nuance.  And maybe it’s because I saw that picture of you on the album cover just now and realized that I’d never seen a picture of you before and realized what I’d been missing back in ’97.  Whatever the reason, I’m glad we could get reacquainted, Natalie Imbruglia.
