Oh, Cameo, thank you for popularizing one of the most awesome and useful phrases to come out of the modern English language. As you may know, I come from Minnesota, and in Minnesota the phrase that pays is “You bet” (or “You betcha”, if you’re being casual). “You bet” is an all-purpose phrase. It’s a phrase that says you understand the instructions someone gave you, it can be an answer in the affirmative, it’s a way to say “you’re welcome”, it can even be an exclamation of excitement. But “word up” is “you bet”‘s cool cousin from the big city.  You can use it to do all the same things, but you sound more “hip” and “with it” when you use “word up”. Or, if you’re REALLY cool, you can just say “word”. “Did you get that spreadsheet I sent you, Flannagan?” “Word”. It got played out for awhile, Cameo, but to my excitement, I’m hearing it used more and more again. I love saying “Word up” almost as much as I love this song, which is a whole lot, Cameo. Now the trick is to figure out how to end this post in a way so that I can say “Word up”. There’s got to be some way to do that, right? Word up.
