The #3 most viewed post on The MTM 7 Countdown: Radio XVI, side B, track 12: “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)” by Cinderella

This was my second post to get Freshly Pressed.  I was in shock that it could have happened twice.   It was nice to know that dreaming about touching a girl’s butt struck a chord with so many others.

Cinderella Dont Know What You Got Till Its GoneOh, Cinderella, as I’ve mentioned before, this song was specifically made for high school dances.  The ladies loved to slow dance to this one.  And when it came to slow dancing, there was only one body part that I was acutely aware of:  my hands.  Because depending on where one’s hands were located on your dance partner, this would dictate just how well your night was going or was going to go.  As a seventh grader who looked like I did, my nights weren’t really going to go anywhere anyway, Cinderella, but high school dances were my first real opportunity to touch a girl.  Did that sound pervy?  Whatever, it’s true.  I would slowly learn all about hand positioning.  For several years, no matter who I danced with, hands were at the 3 and 9 positions, firmly on the sides, above the jeans waist and a good five feet between me and my partner.  As the years progressed and there was a modicum of confidence, hands were now firmly on the hips and the distance between dancers diminished.  At some point, hands were laced behind her at the small of her back and there was no space betwixt, and at some point, praise all that is good, at least one hand was on her posterior, maybe even IN the back pocket of her jeans.  But that was a long time coming, Cinderella.  At the time this song was popular, I saw many others and the different locations of their hands, but mine weren’t among them.

UPDATE, 3/5/13:  This post has been Freshly Pressed!!!  Welcome, new readers and thanks to all my regular readers for making this little labor of love such a successful blog!  Hope you enjoy your stay, and even if you don’t like the writing, the music’s great 🙂

If we take some time
Think it over, baby

Take some time, let me know
If ya really wanna goooo

Don’t know what ya got
‘Til it’s gooone

Don’t know what it is
I did so wro-o-ong

Now I know what I’ve got
It’s just this soooong

And it ain’t easy to get back, takes so lo-o-ong

Tearin’ through my soul
I just can’t take

If we take some time
Think it over, baby
Take some time, let me know
If ya really wanna goooo

Don’t know what ya got
‘Til it’s gooone
Don’t know what it is
I did so wro-o-ong

Now I know what I’ve got
It’s just this sooong

And it ain’t easy to get back, takes so lo-o-ong

Do ya wanna see me beggin’, baby
Can’t ya give me just one more day
Can’t ya see my heart’s been draggin’ lately
I’ve been lookin’ for the words to saaaay

<awesome Cinderella jam>

Don’t know what ya got
‘Til it’s goooone
Don’t know what it is
I did so wro-o-ong

Now I know what I’ve got
It’s just this soooong

And it ain’t easy to get back, takes so lo-o-ong

Ow!
Don’t know what ya got
‘Til it’s gooone, no!

Don’t know what it is
I did so wro-o-ong

Now I know what I’ve got
It’s just this so-o-ong

And it ain’t easy to get back, takes so lo-o-ong
