Oh, Roxette, I had enjoyed your music before, but this is where I truly fell in love with you. Â Then and now, I’m always a sucker for a powerful love ballad. Â And while I’ve given you some guff in the past for lyrics that didn’t necessarily always make a lot of sense, I’ve got nothing to say on this one. Â This is the kind of song where I would totally steal the lyrics to put in a love letter. Â “Lay a whisper on my pillow.” Â “I turn to water like a teardrop in your palm.” Â Holy shit, Roxette, that’s beautiful! Â And that’s WITHOUT adding your beautiful music to it. Â Of course, since this song is featured in “Pretty Woman” (of which I owned the soundtrack), there’s no way I could co-opt these lyrics since every woman on the planet has seen “Pretty Woman” a thousand million times and would know exactly where I got them from.
Now, even though I have ALSOÂ watched “Pretty Woman” a thousand million times, I am tempted to write about how the country embraced a light-hearted comedy about a prostitute who gives blowjobs but won’t kiss on the mouth and that such a movie was made into a light-hearted comedy in the first place. Â I’m also tempted to write about my derision for Julia Roberts and her lack of talent beyond pursing her lips and braying/looking like a clown-horse. Â BUT, like Julia Roberts’ teeth, I’m bigger than that.
Well, that last statement wasn’t true at all, obviously.  Of course I’m not bigger than that.  Unless you’re talking waistline.  But I would rather just focus on this wonderful song, Roxette.  Surprisingly, this isn’t even my favorite song of yours.  Unfortunately, as of this post, I’ve never been able to capture my favorite of your songs on tape or any other media.  I may have had the cassingle, but like Julia Roberts did with her previous marriage, I threw it away.  So here it is, just in case we never get to listen to it on here.  Thanks, Roxette, for giving me an excuse to listen to a couple of your wonderful songs as well as bash Julia Roberts.  That’s a good day.
“It Must Have Been Love”
<awesome Roxette jam>
Must have been love
But it’s over now
Lay a whisper
On my pillow
Leave the winter
On the ground
I wake up lonely
This air of silence
In the bedroom
And all around (all around)
Touch me now
I close my eyes
And dream away
It must have been love
But it’s over now
It must have been good
But I lost it somehow
It must have been love
But it’s over now
From the moment we touched
‘Til the time had run out
Make-believin’
We’re together
That I’m sheltered
By your heart
But in and outside
I turn to water
Like a teardrop
In your palm
And it’s a hard
Winter’s daaaay
I dream away
It must have been love (must have been love)
But it’s over now (but it’s over now)
It was all that I wanted
Now I’m livin’ without
It must have been love (must have been love)
But it’s over now (it’s over now)
It’s where the water flows
It’s where the wind bloooows
<awesome Roxette jam>
It must have been love (must have been love)
But it’s over now (but it’s over now)
It must have been good
But I lost it somehow
It must have been love (must have been love)
But it’s over now (but it’s over now)
From the moment we touched
‘Til the time had run out
Yeah, it must have been love (must have been love)
But it’s over now (it’s over now)
It was all that I wanted
Now I’m livin’ without
It must have been love
But it’s over noooow
It’s where the water floooows
It’s where the wind bloooooows
