Oh, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, this song is a great example of unintended consequences. It’s a great rock and roll song, but unfortunately, every time I hear it, the first thing I think of is Tom Cruise in his underpants. I’m pretty sure that’s not what you were hoping to evoke with this, but unfortunately that oh so memorable scene in “Risky Business” kinda stole any other thunder that this song had. And it’s too bad, because I think this song is stellar. And it’s a great song to debate about. Is it really true that today’s music ain’t got the same soul as that old time rock and roll? Because there are some days when I’m firmly in your camp, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, where I feel like I’m a proud relic, proudly old-fashioned and over the hill and find myself complaining about “these kids today” and their music. But I think I’ve said it here somewhere before, that I have a feeling that there were others complaining about your music when it was new, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, just as Justin Bieber’s fans are going to be complaining about their kids’ music in another 20 years or so. I like that old time rock and roll, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, but I’ve gotta say, “Call Me Maybe” is a pretty damn catchy tune. But this whole debate is moot anyway, because of Tom Cruise’s underpants.
