Oh, The Romantics, I always thought of James Bond when I heard this song. Because this song seemed to be what had to be James Bond’s worst nightmare. I was a big James Bond fan, The Romantics. My parents had an old record of old James Bond tunes that I would listen to over and over, especially that awesome James Bond intro. I would run around the house in a light blue insulated vest and a green plastic toy lug wrench that doubled as a gun and I would pretend that I was beating up Blofeld and Jaws and rescuing all those amazingly beautiful women he kissed. By the time I heard this song, I wasn’t doing that anymore (much), but it always made me think of Mr. Bond, because he slept with so many of the ladies, and talking in one’s sleep had to be a pretty big career hazard for a spy of his stature. I just pictured Roger Moore (this was the early ’80’s, after all) driving his Aston Martin away from some tryst and in the back of his head worriedly wondered if he’d given away some secret in the throes of passion or during a really restful night’s sleep. And I pictured him turning on the radio and hearing this song, The Romantics, and wondering if it was just a silly coincidence or if he’d have to turn the car around and kill whatever pretty girl he’d just slept with. Which he would do if he had to. Which seemed unbelievably awesome and unbelievably horrible all at the same time, and so I was always horribly conflicted about James Bond, The Romantics. Until the next girl showed up on the screen and I lost my train of thought. . .
“Talking In Your Sleep”
<awesome The Romantics intro>
When you close your eyes, and ya
Go ta sleep
And it’s down to the sound of a
Heartbeat
I can hear the things that you’re dreamin’ about
When ya open up your heart, and the truth comes out
You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I’m right
‘Cause I hear it in the niiight
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
When I hold you in
My arms at night
Don’t ya know you’re sleeping in a
Spotlight
And all your dreams that you keep inside
Yer tellin’ me the secrets that you just can’t hide
You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I’m right
‘Cause I hear it in the niiight
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
When you close your eyes, and ya
Fall asleep
Everything about you is a mystery
You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I’m right
‘Cause I hear it in the niiight
I hear
The secrets that you keep
When you’re talking in your sleep
I hear
The secrets that you keep
